FPGA-Based random radioactive source signal generator
Abstract
Signal Generators are used in many scientific research fields. It is also widely used in nuclear
electronics. Being able to emulate the signals generated by radioactive sources in liquid/plastic
scintillators is very important for the safety of research. These signals are fast at the ns-μs level and
have a random nature. Therefore, special methods are required to generate them because of this
randomness. In this study, an FPGA-based signal generator design that can generate a radioactive
source signal of random amplitude at random times is presented. The system was able to
successfully emulate the signal of a real radioactive source.
