Covid-19 pandemisinde yetişkinlerdeki ruh sağlığı problemlerinin aleksitimi ile ilişkisinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Covid-19 virüsü kişilerin fiziksel sağlıklarını tehdit etmekle kalmayıp psikolojik açıdan da pek çok olumsuz etkide bulunmuştur. Salgınla meydana gelen günlük hayattaki değişmeler, yeni alışkanlıklar, kısıtlamalar ve karantina uygulamaları kişilerde depresif ve travmatik belirtiler meydana getirmiştir. Literatürde aleksitimi ile ilişkisine dair sayıca az çalışma bulunmakta ve aydınlatılmaya ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Covid-19 pandemisinde yetişkinlerdeki ruh sağlığı problemlerinin çalışılması ve aleksitimi ile ilişkisinin belirlenmesi önem arz etmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Covid-19 pandemisinde yetişkin bireylerde görülen ruh sağlığı problemleri ile aleksitimi arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi, aleksitiminin travmayı ne derecede yordadığının belirlenmesi ve karantinada kalma durumuna göre grupların psikolojik belirtilerinin karşılaştırılmasıdır. Çalışmada nicel araştırma modeli kullanılmıştır ve toplum örnekleminden gönüllü bir biçimde katılım sağlamayı kabul eden 18-65 yaş arasındaki 150 katılımcı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan ve evde kalıyor olmanın olumsuz etkisi, Covid-19 pandemi sürecine tahammül düzeyi, salgının biteceğine dair umut gibi değişkenlerin de içinde yer aldığı Demografik Bilgi Formu, korku düzeylerini ölçmek için Covid-19 Korkusu Ölçeği, depresyon düzeyini ölçmek için Beck Depresyon Envanteri, aleksitimi düzeyini ölçmek için Toronto Aleksitimi Ölçeği ve travma sonrası stres bozukluğu belirtilerini ölçmek için Olayların Etkisi Ölçeği-R kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Katılımcılar karantinada kalma durumlarına göre iki gruba ayrılmıştır. Karantinada kalan grup yaşları 18 ila 65 arasında değişen 94 kişiden oluşmaktadır. Karantinada kalma durumuna göre depresyon, Covid-19 korkusu, travma ve aleksitimi puanlarında anlamlı bir fark görülmemiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre depresyon, Covid-19 korkusu, travma ve aleksitimi arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı ilişki görülmektedir. Yapılan regresyon analizi sonucuna göre aleksitimi travmayı istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede yordamaktadır. Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar konu ile ilgili literatür çerçevesinde tartışılmış ve gelecekte yapılabilecek çalışmalar için önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The Covid-19 virus not only threatens people's physical health but also has many negative effects psychologically. Changes in daily life, new habits, restrictions and quarantine practices that occurred with the epidemic caused depressive and traumatic symptoms in people. There are few studies in the literature on its relationship with alexithymia and there is a need for clarification. In the Covid-19 pandemic, it is important to study mental health problems in adults and to determine their relationship with alexithymia. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between mental health problems and alexithymia, to determine the predictive level of alexithymia for depression/trauma and to compare the psychological symptoms of the groups according to quarantine status in adults during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study used a quantitative research model and was conducted with 150 participants between the ages 18-65 who voluntarily agreed to participate from a community sample. The data were obtained by using the Demographic Information Form prepared by the researcher and including variables such as the negative effect of staying at home, the level of tolerance for the Covid-19 pandemic process, hope that the epidemic end, the Covid-19 Fear Scale to measure fear levels, Beck Depression Inventory to measure depression level, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale to measure the level of alexithymia and the Impact of Events Scale-R to measure the symptoms post-traumatic stress disorder. It was also determined that alexithymia significantly predicted depression/trauma. Participants were divided into two groups according to their quarantine status. The group remaining in quarantine consists of 94 people aged between 18 and 65. There was no significant difference in depression, fear of Covid-19, trauma and alexithymia scores according to quarantine status. According to the findings, there is a statistically significant relationship between depression, fear of Covid-19, trauma and alexithymia in the general sample. According to the results of the regression analysis, alexithymia predicts trauma statistically significantly. The results obtained from research were discussed within the framework of literature on the subject and the suggestions were made for future studies.
