Üniversite öğrencilerinin uzamsal yeteneklerinin ve geometri kavramına yönelik kelime ilişkilendirmelerinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Araştırma kapsamında üniversite öğrencilerinin uzamsal yetenekleriyle demografik özellikleri ve uzamsal yetenekle ilişkili olduğu düşünülen bağımlı değişkenler arasındaki ilişki durumu karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmiştir. Ayrıca uzamsal yeteneği yüksek ve düşük düzeyde olan öğrencilerin geometri anahtar kelimesini ilişkilendirdikleri kavramların sayıca zenginlikleri analiz edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada karma araştırma yöntemlerinden eş zamanlı karma tipolojisi kullanılmış ve çalışma gurubunu 219 üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Çalışma gurubu basit kolay ulaşılabilir örneklem yöntemiyle belirlenmiştir. Üniversite öğrencilerine üç bölümden oluşan Google Form uygulanmıştır. İlk bölümünde demografik özelliklerini belirlemek için "Kişisel Bilgi Formu", ikinci bölümde uzamsal yeteneklerini ölçmek için "Purdue Görselleme Testi", üçüncü bölümde ise "Geometri" kavramına yönelik bilişsel yapılarını belirlemek için "Kelime İlişkilendirme Testi" bulunmaktadır. Araştırmanın sonucunda üniversite öğrencilerinin PUGT'e vermiş oldukları cevaplardan yola çıkarak kız ve erkek öğrencilerin uzamsal yetenekleri açısından erkekler lehine, sınıf düzeyleri değişkenine göre uzamsal yetenekleri açısından, matematiği sevip sevmeme durum değişkenine göre uzamsal yetenekleri açısından, 3 boyutlu bir cismi zihinde canlandırabilme durumu değişkenine göre uzamsal yetenekleri açısından ve kağıttan parçaları birleştirerek şekil oluşturabilme durumu değişkenine göre uzamsal yetenekleri açısından anlamlı bir farklılık olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. "Geometri" anahtar kavramı Kelime İlişkilendirme Testi olarak uygulanmış, verilmiş olan cevaplardan uzamsal yetenekleri düşük ve yüksek olan öğrencilerin frekans tabloları oluşturulmuştur. Frekans tablolarından yola çıkarak uzamsal yetenekleri düşük ve yüksek öğrencilerin kesme noktası tekniği ile "Geometri" kavramına yönelik bilişsel yapıları kavram ağları ile ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda tüm üniversite öğrencilerinin toplamda vermiş olduğu cevap sayısı 2190'dır. Uzamsal yetenekleri düşük üniversite öğrencilerinin vermiş olduğu cevaplarda 10 kategori ve 1310 kelime, uzamsal yetenekleri yüksek üniversite öğrencilerinin vermiş olduğu cevaplarda 10 kategori ve 880 kelimedir.

Within the scope of the research, the relationship between the spatial abilities and demographic characteristics of university students and the dependent variables that are thought to be related to spatial ability were examined comparatively. In addition, analyzing the numerical richness of the concepts with which the students with high and low spatial skills associate the geometry keyword. In this study, mixed typology, one of the mixed research methods, was used and the study group consisted of 219 university students. The convenience sampling method determined the study group and applied a Google Form composed of three parts to university students. In the first part, there is a "Personal Information Form" to determine their demographic characteristics, in the second part, there is the "Purdue Visualization Test" to measure their spatial abilities, and in the third part, there is a "Word Association Test" to determine the cognitive structures for the concept of "Geometry". As a result of the research, based on the answers given by the university students to PUGT, the spatial abilities of the male and female students were in favor of college boys. It has been concluded that there is a significant difference in spatial abilities according to the grade level, whether they liked mathematics or not, visualize a 3-dimensional object in mind and forming a shape by combining pieces of paper. The "Geometry" key concept was applied as a Word Association Test and created frequency tables of students with low and high spatial abilities from the answers given. The frequency tables revealed the cognitive structures of the students with low and high spatial abilities with the breakpoint technique and the concept networks for the concept of "Geometry". As a result of the research, the total number of answers given by all university students is 2190. There are ten categories and 1310 words in the answers provided by university students with low spatial abilities, and ten categories and 880 words in the answers given by university students with high spatial abilities.
