Diabetes mellitus, which affects 8% of the world population and 13% of the Turkey population is manifested by the inability to use insulin and an increase in blood glucose levels as a result of the absence, insufficiency or degradation in the metabolism of the insulin hormone secreted by the pancreas gland. General treatment in diabetes patients; nutrition treatment, physical activity and medication. Recently, the effects of the micronutrients on diabetes have also been investigated. One of these micronutrients is zinc which is thought to be effective on diabetes and supported by various studies. Zinc, which is the most common trace element in the organism after iron, is found in many foods from animal based foods to grains. Although the mechanism of zinc on diabetes is not fully understood, it is thought that it decreases oxidative stress, has an antioxidant effect, the cells affect apoptosis, and it plays a role in the secretion and packaging of insulin.
