| dc.description.abstract | Aim: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between hope, psychological resilience and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 239 hemodialysis patients in two dialysis units located in Istanbul between September and December 2023. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Dispositional Hope Scale, Brief Resilience Scale, and Kidney Disease Quality of Life Instrument through face-to-face interviews. Result: The average age of the patients was 63.65±11.46 years, and the average duration of dialysis treatment was 5.17±2.96 years. Among the participants, 59% were male, 90% were married, 42.3% were illiterate, 41% were housewives, 79.9% had an income equal to their expenses, and 89.5% reported having good overall health. The mean scores of the Dispositional Hope Scale, Alternative Ways Thinking and Actuating Thinking subscales are 21.86±6.02, 18.10±5.92, 39.96±10.24, respectively, and the mean score of the Brief Psychological Resilience Scale is 41.21±5.84. The mean scores of the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Instrument sub-dimensions are List of Symptoms/Problems 26.95±5.66, Burden of Kidney Disease 55.98±11.50, Effects of Kidney Disease 21.34±2.88, Physical Health 52.43±8.46, and Mental Health 47.40±10.25. A positive and statistically significant correlation was found between Brief Resilience Scale and Alternative Ways Thinking, Actuating Thinking, and Dispositional Hope Scale. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between Alternative Ways Thinking and Physical Health, and a negative correlation with the Symptoms/Problems List. Conclusion: The levels of hope and resilience were found to be moderate, while the quality of life was low. Furthermore, as the patients' hope increased, their psychological resilience also increased. Those who can make successful plans and generate pathways for desired goals under normal or challenging conditions experience fewer symptoms and have better physical health. | |
