An investigation on the relationship between teachers' occupational commitment and school effectiveness

Abstract

his research is conducted to determine whether teachers' occupational commitment predicts school effectiveness.The research was carried out according to the predictive research model.396 volunteer teachers who work in public schools in different districts of Istanbul Anatolian Side participated in the study. The research data were collected by the “Occupational Commitment Scale” and “School Effectiveness Index Scale”. In the analysis of the data, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and regression analysis were applied.According to the research findings, while teachers' perceptions of school effectiveness did not differ significantly according to the gender and seniority of the teachers; It shows a significant difference according to the educational level and school levels. School effectiveness perceptions of undergraduate graduate teachers and teachers working in primary schools are more positive than the perception of school effectiveness of teachers who graduate from graduate education and working in secondary and high schools. While the professional commitment of teachers does not differ significantly according to the gender of the teachers and the school levels they work at; show significant difference according to their educational status and seniority. The professional commitment of undergraduate graduate teachers and teachers with a seniority of 16 years or higher is higher than that of graduate graduate teachers and teachers of 10 years or less. In addition, according to the research findings, it is seen that there is a moderate and positive significant relationship between teachers' professional commitment and school effectiveness. It can be said that as teachers' professional loyalty increases, school effectiveness increases positively. It can be said that teachers' professional loyalty was low in the first yearsof teaching and they could not contribute enough to school effectiveness. Therefore, it may be suggested to take precautions to ensure the professional commitment of teachers to be formed in the first years of teaching.Bu araştırma, öğretmenlerin mesleki bağlılıklarının okul etkililiğini yordayıp yordamadığını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada yordayıcı araştırma deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya İstanbul Anadolu Yakasında farklı ilçelerde devlet okullarında görev yapan 396 öğretmen gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Araştırma verileri “Mesleki Bağlılık Ölçeği” ve “Okul Etkinliği Endeksi Ölçeği” ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde t-Testi, anova, korelasyon ve regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada, cinsiyet değişkeni açısından anlamlı farklar bulunmaz iken, eğitim durumu, kıdem ve çalışılan okul değişkenleri açısından anlamlı farklar bulunmuştur. Araştırma bulgularına göre öğretmenlerin mesleki bağlılıkları ile okul etkililiği arasında orta düzeyde ve pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu görülmektedir. Öğretmenlerin mesleki bağlılıkları arttıkça okul etkililiğinin de olumlu yönde arttığı söylenebilir. Öğretmenlerin mesleki bağlılıkları öğretmenliğin ilk yıllarında düşük olduğundan okul etkililiğine yeterince katkı sunamadıkları söylenebilir. Dolayısıyla öğretmenlerin mesleki bağlılıklarının öğretmenliğin ilk yıllarında oluşmasını sağlayacak önlemlerin alınması önerilebilir
