Yaşlıların değerlendirmesi ile yaşlı ihmali ve istismarı

Abstract

İstismar ve ihmal dezavantajlı nüfus gruplarından birini teşkil eden yaşlıların yaşamını olumsuz etkilemektedir. Sosyal refah ve yaşam kalitesinin artmasıyla birlikte dünyada ortalama yaşam süresi de arttı. Bununla birlikte her yıl gittikçe büyüyen yaşlı nüfus kimi zaman kurumda kimi zaman ailede kimi zaman ise toplumda istismar ve ihmale maruz kalabiliyor. Bu çalışmanın amacı, yaşlıların istismar ve ihmale maruz kalma nedenlerini ve konuya ilişkin farkındalık düzeylerinin belirlenmesidir. Araştırmada, İstanbul ilinde farklı ilçelerde yaşayan 110 yaşlı ile anket formu kullanılarak görüş ve düşünceleri alınmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre yaşlı bireyler en çok psikolojik istismara (%41,8) maruz kalmaktadır. Bu istismar türünü sırasıyla fiziksel (%24,5), ekonomik (%20) ve cinsel istismar (%5,5) takip etmektedir. İhmale maruz kaldığını belirten yaşlı bireyler %19,1 oranındadır. Çıkan sonuçlara göre istismarı uygulan kişiler daha çok kişinin ailesi ve yakın çevresidir. Yaşlı istismar ve ihmaline ilişkin görüş ve düşünceleri sorulduğunda büyük bir bölümünün fikir sahibi oldukları görülmekle beraber iki kavramı birbirine karıştıranların oranı da yüksektir. Ülkemizdeki yasal mevzuatın kendilerini istismar ve ihmale yeterince korumadığını düşünenlerin oranı yüksek bulunmuştur.

Abuse and neglect negatively affect the lives of elderly people who constitute one of the disadvantaged population groups. With the increase in social welfare and quality of life, the average life expectancy in the world has increased. Along with this, the annually increasing number of elderly population faces exploitation and neglection within social institutions, society and family. The purpose of this study is to identify reasons for this phenomenon and deal with the level of awarness for this within society. For this research, 110 elderly people living in the area of Istanbul have ben surveyed and interviewed. According to the results of the research, elderly individuals are mostly exposed to psychological abuse (41.8%). This type of abuse is followed by physical (24.5%), economic (20%) and sexual abuse (5.5%), respectively. Elderly individuals who reported being neglected were 19.1%. According to the results, the people who apply the abuse are more people's family and close circle. When asked about the views and thoughts about elder abuse and neglect, it is seen that most of them have an idea, but the ratio of those who confuse the two concepts is high. The rate of those who think that the legal legislation in our country does not protect themselves adequately against abuse and neglect is found to be high.
