Abstract

This research was undertaken to answer a major research question related to the issue of waqf/Islamic endowment as an economic and civilizational resource in Islamic history. The waqf is seen as one of the fundamental pillars the Islamic civilization ordered on its strong foundations through its long and proud historical age. This pioneering developmental and humanitarian pillar provided a decent life for Muslim societies based on the deep Islamic vision of the waqf system as a charitable, developmental, and humanitarian system. In fact, this research is considered an attempt to study the conceptual rooting of the waqf in light of the whole Islamic economic theory and its contemporary application. Additionally, it presented a vision about the waqf as one of the most important economic components that aimed to strengthen the ties of human cooperation and interaction between the human race. This research showed the Waqf as an economic tool with an ethical standard that aims to reduce the disparity between the members within contemporary societies. As the research has stated, the importance of the Waqf is at all economic, social, developmental, and even political levels.

Bu araştırma, İslam tarihinde ekonomik ve medeniyet ile ilgili bir kaynak olarak vakıf konusunu işlemektedir. Vakıf, İslam medeniyetinin sağlam temelleri üzerinde, özellikle de ihtişamlı tarihi dönemlerin temel bir ayağı olarak tanınmaktadır. Bu öncü gelişme ve insani yardım ayağı, bağış sisteminin hayırsever, kalkınmacı ve insanî bir sistem olarak öncü ve köklü İslami vizyonu sayesinde İslam toplumlarında nezih bir yaşam sağlamıştır. Bu araştırma, İslami makroekonomik teori ve çağdaş uygulamaları ışığında vakıfların kavramsal kökenini incelemeye çalışmıştır. Ayrıca, bu araştırma, insanlar arasındaki işbirliği ve tanışma bağlarını güçlendirmeyi amaçlayan en önemli ekonomik dayanaklardan biri olarak vakıf hakkında bir vizyon sunmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, vakfın çağdaş toplumlarda insanlar arasındaki eşitsizliği azaltmayı amaçlayan etik standartlara sahip bir ekonomik araç olduğunu göstermektedir. Böylece bu araştırma, vakfın ekonomik, sosyal, gelişimsel ve hatta politik önemini belirlemiştir.
