The word ignorance is derived from the Arabic root "c-h-l" and means "ignorance", which is the opposite of science. In a special sense, it refers to the religious and social life of the people living in the Arabian Peninsula before the advent of Islam, and the inhuman and immoral situation that people or tribes commonly commit. This period was called the "Ignorance Period" because the states and actions that are far from humane behaviors such as ignorance, frivolity, blindness, barbarism and exuberance, which are the lexical meaning of the word jahiliyyah, dominate the social lives of people living before Islam. The aim of this study is to make a study on the women of the period of ignorance, based on these meanings attributed to the word jahiliyyah, and to examine how the position of women in society and family changed with the advent of Islam. While creating the thesis in line with the purpose, first of all, a literature review of similar studies was made. This study has been prepared as a result of scientific research methods, document review and source scanning methods. Within the scope of the study, how the tradition of burial of girls alive, which is the most well-known custom of the jahiliyya period, emerged, among which tribes it was common, and what the sociological, psychological and economic reasons were behind it, and the position of women and families through the types of marriage that formed the basis of the family institution were examined. In addition to the unlimited rights granted to men, the fact that women have no rights is due to the fact that the society is governed according to customs and traditions and that these are accepted as laws and there is no certain legal system. With Islam, the status of women in the family and society has changed.
