Türkiye’de Sektörel Dış Ticaretin Enflasyon Üzerindeki Etkisi: ARDL Yaklaşımı

Abstract

Açık ekonomilerde dış ticaret ve enflasyon arasındaki ilişki Keynesyen talep fonksiyonunda ihracattaki artışın yurtiçi gelirleri ve dolayısıyla toplam talebi artırıp fiyatların yükselmesine, ithalattaki artışın ise milli gelirin bir kısmının yurt dışına çıkmasına neden olarak toplam talebi azaltacağı ve enflasyonu düşüreceği şeklinde formüle edilmiştir. Türkiye'de dış ticaret ve enflasyon arasındaki ilişkiyi analiz eden geniş bir literatür olmasına rağmen, bildiğimiz kadarıyla bu çalışma iki değişken arasındaki ilişkiyi 1969q1-2022q4 dönemi için ARDL modelini kullanarak sektörel bazda inceleyen ilk çalışmadır. Yapılan analiz sonucunda kısa dönemde toplam ihracatın tüketici fiyatları üzerinde negatif ve anlamlı, toplam ithalatın ise pozitif ve anlamlı etki ettiği tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre sektörel ithalat ve ihracatların enflasyon üzerinde etkileri farklılık arz etmekte, bu etkiler kısa ve uzun dönemde de ayrışmaktadır. Özellikle, tekstil ürünleri ithalat ve ihracatlarının hem kısa hem de uzun dönemde yurtiçi fiyatlara pozitif ve anlamlı etki ettiği görülmüştür. Ayrıca üç sektör ithalatlarının da (elektrik, gaz ve su, ormancılık ve tomrukçuluk ve başka yerde sınıflandırılmamış makine ve teçhizat) kısa ve uzun dönemde yurtiçi fiyatlara pozitif ve anlamlı etki ettiği tespit edilmiştir.

The relationship between foreign trade and inflation is formulated in the Keynesian demand function as an increase in exports will increase domestic income and aggregate demand and raise prices in an open economy. In contrast, an increase in imports will cause a portion of national income to go abroad, thus reducing aggregate demand and lowering inflation. In this context, the dependence of Turkish exports on imports causes a significant portion of foreign trade revenues to leave the country through imports. Although extensive literature analyzes the relationship between foreign trade and inflation in Türkiye, to our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the relationship between the two variables on a sectoral basis using the ARDL model over 1969q1-2022q4. The results show that total exports had a negative and significant impact on consumer prices in the short term, while total imports had a positive and significant impact. According to the findings, the effects of sectoral imports and exports on inflation differ, and these effects differ in the short and long term. It has been observed that imports and exports of textile products positively and significantly impact domestic prices in the short and long-term. In addition, it has been determined that imports of three sectors (electricity, gas and water, forestry and logging, and machinery and equipment not classified elsewhere) also positively and significantly impact domestic prices in the short and long term.
