Osmanlı Süreli Çocuk Yayınlarında Çocukluk ve Eğitim Anlayışı "Çocuk Dostu" Örneği

Abstract

Çocuk Dostu (1914), Türkiye’de okulöncesi kademesi çocukları için çıkarılan ilk çocuk der- gisidir. Dergi tarihsel malzeme olarak dönemin imkânlarını ve çocukluk anlayışını yansıtması yanında Türk çocukluk tarihi açısından da önemli bir belgedir. Dergi araştırmacılarca genel değerlendirmelerin dışında geniş bir incelemeye tabi tutulmamıştır. Dönemin eğitim anlayışı ve çocuk paradigmasını anlama açısından, dergi içeriğinin incelenmesi önemlidir. Nitel araştırma yönteminin uygulandığı çalışmada çocukluk kavramı, çocuklara yönelik süreli yayınların işlev- leri ve dönemin çocuk dergiciliği kısaca incelenmiş, derginin eğitim açısından önemi değer- lendirilmiştir. Biçimsel açıdan derginin yayın bilgileri, hedef kitlesi, amacı-önemi, içerik açı- sından da görselliği, başlıca konuları eğitici-öğretici yönü incelenmiştir. İncelemede derginin tüm sayıları kullanılmıştır. Derginin genel söylemi, çocuğa görelik boyutu, amaç-içerik uyumu, içerdiği sakıncalı mesajlar değerlendirilmiştir. İçerikten, hedef kitlenin bilgi sahibi, araştır- macı, azimli, girişimci, dürüst, çalışkan, paylaşımcı ve vatansever duygularla yetiştirilmesinin hedeflendiği görülmüştür. Çağdaşı diğer çocuk dergilerine göre dönemin olumsuz şartlarından kaynaklı pedagojik sakıncalardan önemli ölçüde uzak durmayı başarmıştır. Biçim ve içeriğiyle çağdaş çocuk yayıncılığı anlayışıyla uyumlu olduğu görülmüştür. Çocuklara sunduğu içerik- lerle bir yönüyle çocuk merkezci diğer yönüyle geleceğin yetişkini anlayışını sergilemiştir. Bu bakımdan “Romantik” ve “Protestan” çocukluk anlayışından etkilenerek iki kulvarda gelişmiş olan 20.yüzyıl çocuk paradigmasına uyumlu bir yayın olduğu söylenebilir. Dergi ait olduğu dönemin çocuk yetiştirme imkanları ile model insan anlayışı konusunda kanaat oluşturmaya yardımcı bir belge nitelindedir. Bu bakımdan çalışmanın Türk eğitim ve çocukluk tarihi litera- türüne önemli katkısı olacağı umulmaktadır.

Çocuk Dostu (1914) is the first children’s magazine published for preschool children in Turkey. The magazine is an important historical document in terms of Turkish childhood history, as well as reflecting the opportunities and the understanding of childhood of the period. The ma- gazine has not been subjected to a wide review other than general evaluations. Examining the magazine in terms of the concept of education and child paradigm of the period is important for Turkish childhood history. The study employed a qualitative research method. It examined the concept of childhood, the functions of periodicals for children, and the journalism for children at the time, and evaluated the importance of the magazine in terms of education. The study examined the publication information, target audience, purpose-importance, and main topics in terms of form; its visual quality, and educational-instructive aspect in terms of content. The study evaluated the general discourse of the magazine, its child-friendly dimension, purpo- se-content compatibility, and the objectionable messages that it contains. In this sense, one may see from the content that the magazine aimed to raise the target audience with knowledge, enquirer, determined, entrepreneurial, honest, hardworking, sharing, and patriotic feelings. Although it contains some inappropriate written and visual messages, as a children’s publica- tion, managed to stay away from the pedagogical inconveniences caused by the negative con- ditions of the period compared to other contemporary children’s magazines. It was found that in terms of form and content Çocuk Dostu is quite compatible with contemporary principles in publication for children. With the content that it offers to children, it displays the understanding of child-centeredness on the one hand and the adult of the future on the other. In this respect, it can be said that it is a publication that is compatible with the 20th-century child paradigm that has developed in two tracks by being influenced by the “Romantic” and “Protestant” concept of childhood. The magazine is a document that helps to form an opinion about the child-rearing opportunities and model human understanding of the period to which it belongs. In this respe- ct, it is hoped that the study will make an important contribution to Turkish education and the literature of childhood history.
