Tanzimat'tan Cumhuriyet'e Osmanlı kadın modernleşmesi

Abstract

Modernleşme kavramı dünya tarihini anlamak için anahtar kavramlardan biridir. Osmanlı'daki modernleşme adımları planlı olarak Tanzimat'la atılır ve Meşrutiyet'le devam eder. Fakat edebiyatta ve gündelik hayatta modernleşmenin öznesi olarak kadın yer alır. Yapılan birçok çalışma Tanzimat'ın ve Meşrutiyet'in toplumsal sonuçlarını irdelemiştir. Ancak Osmanlı kadınlarının moderniteyle olan etkileşimleri yeterli seviyede araştırılamamıştır. Osmanlı kadın aydınları on dokuzuncu yüzyıldan itibaren modernleşme hareketlerini kendilerine özgü bir yorumla ifade etmiştir. Yenileşme sürecinde yalnızca bir dinamik ve dönem üzerinden yapılan kadın modernleşme izahatları bütüncül bir bakış için yeterli değildir. Bu çalışma Osmanlı'da Tanzimat'tan Cumhuriyet'e kadın modernleşmesinin edebi, sosyal ve siyasi dinamiklerini ve bu dinamiklerin sürece etkilerini araştırır. Osmanlı kadın modernleşmesine kadın yazarlarıyla yön veren Aile, Hanımlara Mahsus Gazete, Kadın, Kadınlar Dünyası, Türk Kadını gibi dönemin modernleşmesine yön veren kadın dergilerinde dönemin kadınlık fikri ile ilgili makaleleri incelenecektir. Şinasi, Namık Kemal, Şemseddin Sami, Sami Paşazade Sezai, Ahmet Mithat Efendi, Fatma Aliye Hanım gibi, kadınların modernleşmesinde katkıda bulundukları eserlerle dönemin evlilik, kadın, aile gibi belli başlı sosyal konularında da yazılan belli başlı edebi metinler kadın modernleşmesine etkileri perspektifinden çözümlenecektir. Kadın modernleşmesine zemin hazırlayan Tanzimat'ı hazırlayan süreçten kadınlık bahsinin ilk kez bahsedildiği kitap olan Muhaverat-ı Hikemiyye'nin yayımlanmasına kadar geçen süreyi Osmanlı modernleşmesi bölümünde, Muhaverat-ı Hikemiye'nin yayımlandığı tarihten Cumhuriyet'in ilanına kadar geçen süreyi Osmanlı kadın modernleşmesi olarak iki ana bölümde incelenecektir. The concept of modernization is one of the key concepts to understand world history. The steps of modernization in the Ottoman are taken during the Tanzimat and continued by the Constitutional Monarchy. But in literature and everyday life, women are the subject of modernization. Many studies have examined the social consequences of Tanzimat and Constitutional period. However, the interactions of Ottoman women with modernity have not been examined on an adequate level. Ottoman women intellectuals, who were following up the modernization movements simultaneously with the rest of the world, had interpreted modernization in their own unique way. It is therefore essential to examine the important changes of this important century from the aspect of women's world. The interaction between modernization of women and this modern women's giving direction to that era, requires reviewing. Explaining the women's modernization during the reform process by focusing either on just a single variable or a specific period does not present a holistic view. This study investigates the literary, social and political variables of women's modernization from the Tanzimat in the Ottoman Empire to the Republic period as well as the effects of these variables on the process. It examines the women's modernization in four major topics; the influence of literature, the effect of reforms in education, the effect of the newspapers and magazines, in which women are either proprietors or writers, on modernization and the Ottoman women's movement initiated by women. Ottoman women's modernization has developed under these four variables and has demonstrated the greatest changes in these four variables. This work covers the period from the Tanzimat to the declaration of the Republic and tries to explain with examples, the Ottoman women's steps of 'modernization' in these variables.
