Bilişsel Psikoloji Perspektifinden Din ve Maneviyat

Abstract

Din ve maneviyat kavramları geçmişten günümüze bilim dünyasında tartışılmaya devam etmektedir. Tarih boyunca din ve bilim ilişkisi çeşitli biçimlerde ele alınmıştır. Yinger’in (1957) din ve bilimin dört şekilde ilişkili olabileceğini ifade etmiştir. Buna göre (i) birbirleriyle uyum içerisinde olabilirler; (ii) aslında din ve bilim birbiriyle aynı anlama gelebilir; (iii) birbirlerinden tamamen ayrı oldukları için aralarında temel bir çatışma söz konusu olmaz; (iv) bilim gerçeğin tek ölçüsü şeklinde kabul edilir ve dinin bilimle çelişen hükümleri bilim adına geçersiz kabul edilerek reddedilebilir. Din kavramının bilim dünyasında nasıl ele alınması gerektiği ile ilgili çeşitli görüşler olmasına rağmen felsefe, sosyoloji, psikoloji, antropoloji gibi birçok disiplin din konusun-da açıklamalar yapmıştır. Uygulamalı bilimlerden biri olan biliş-sel psikoloji de din üzerine araştırmalar yapan bilim alanlarından biridir. Bilişsel psikoloji, din üzerine çalışmalar yaparken dinle ilgili davranışların sadece gözlenen durumla sınırlandırılamaya-cağını, zihinsel temsiller ve inançlar gibi zihinsel süreçlere de odaklanılması gerektiğini ifade etmektedir. Bu makalenin amacı, bilişsel psikolojinin din ve maneviyat konularına ilişkin açıklamalarını ve bu alandaki önde gelen çalışmaları derlemek ve bireyin din ve maneviyatla ilgili gelişimini bilişsel psikoloji perspektifin-den incelemektir. Bu makalede, genel olarak bilişsel psikolojinin tarihçesi, bilişsel psikoloji ve din ilişkisi, dinsel biliş, dini gelişim kuramları ve bilişsel psikoloji, Piaget’nin bilişsel gelişim kuramı ve din, üst biliş, din ve maneviyat ilişkisi son olarak da bilişsel psikoloji ve din arasındaki ilişkileri açıklamaya yönelik bazı araştırmalar betimlenmiştir. Bireyin dini gelişimini ve maneviyatla ilişkisini açıklamada en sık ve yaygın kullanılan bilişsel psikoloji kuramı, Piaget’nin bilişsel gelişim kuramıdır. Elkind ve Goldman gibi alandaki önde gelen kuramcılar ise Piaget’nin kuramın-dan yararlanmışlar ve açıklamalarını zihinsel gelişim evrelerine benzer şekilde evre temelli oluşturmuşlardır. Üst biliş, din ve maneviyat arasındaki ilişkileri saptamak için yapılan çalışmalara bakıldığında ise Flavell, Wells, Brown, Schraw ve Moshman gibi kuramcıların ön plana çıktığı görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak konuya ilişkin yapılan çalışmalara bakıldığında, genel olarak üst biliş ile din ve maneviyat arasında pozitif yönlü ilişkilerin olduğu söylenebilir.

The concepts of religion and spirituality have continued to be discussed in the scientific world from past to present. Throughout history, the relationship between religion and science has been addressed in various ways. Yinger (1957) stated that religion and science could be related in four ways. According to this, (i) they can be in harmony with each other; (ii) religion and science can actually mean the same thing; (iii) since they are completely separate from each other, there is no fundamental conflict between them; (iv) science is accepted as the only measure of truth, and decrees of religion that conflict with science are considered invalid and rejected in the name of science. Although there are various opinions on how the concept of religion should be addressed in the scientific world, many disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, psychology, and anthropology have made explanations on the subject of religion. One of the applied sciences, cognitive psychology, is also one of the scientific fields that conduct research on religion. Cognitive psychology, while studying religion, states that behaviours related to religion cannot be limited to only observed situations, but mental processes such as mental representations and beliefs should also be focused on. The aim of this article is to compile explanations of cognitive psychology regarding religion and spirituality and the leading studies in this field and to examine the development of the individual concerning religion and spirituality from the perspective of cognitive psychology. This article generally describes the history of cognitive psychology, the relationship between cognitive psychology and religion, religious cognition, religious development theories and cognitive psychology, Piaget's cognitive development theory and religion, metacognition, the relationship between religion and spirituality, and some studies aiming to explain the relationships between cognitive psychology and religion. The most commonly and widely used cognitive psychology theory in explaining the religious development of the individual and their relationship with spirituality is Piaget's cognitive development theory. Leading theorists in the field, such as Elkind and Goldman, have utilized Piaget's theory and have based their explanations on stages similar to cognitive development stages. When looking at studies conducted to determine the relationships between metacognition, religion, and spirituality, theorists such as Flavell, Wells, Brown, Schraw, and Moshman come to the forefront. In conclusion, looking at the studies related to the subject, it can generally be said that there are positive relationships between metacognition and religion and spirituality.
