Minik Bilim İnsanlarının Fen Dersinden Beklentileri: Ne Arıyorlar?

Abstract

İlkokul fen bilimleri dersi öğrencilerin dünyayı ve çevrelerini anlamalarını sağlayan önemli derslerden birisidir. Özellikle ilkokul öğrencileri yaşamlarında olan durumları anlamak ve anlamlandırmak ister. Öğrencilerin en merak ettiği konular ise bilimsel konulardır. Bu yüzden iyi bir fen öğretiminin öğrencilerin yaşamlarını kolaylaştırmasına, zenginleştirmesine ve çeşitlendirmesine olanak sağlayacağı söylenebilir. İlkokul fen bilimleri derslerinin içerikleri dünyadaki gelişmelerin ışığında ve öğretmen görüşleri üzerine şekillendiği görülmektedir. Ancak ilkokul öğrencilerine yönelik bir ihtiyaç analizine başvurulmaması önemli bir eksiklik olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda bu araştırmada ilkokul öğrencilerinin fen bilimleri dersinden ne beklediklerine dair görüşlerini ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması desenine göre yürütülmüştür. Odak grup görüşmesi doğrultusunda ölçüt örnekleme dayalı olarak belirlenen dördüncü sınıfa giden sekiz öğrenciyle görüşme gerçekleştirilmiştir. Verilerin analizi için önce betimsel analiz daha sonra içerik analizine dayalı olarak veriler çözümlenmiştir. Verilerin analizi sonucunda öğrencilerin fen bilimleri dersinin ilgi çekici içeriklerden oluşmasını, uygulamalı olarak yürütülmesini, yenilik içeren yaklaşımlara ve öğretilere dayanmasını, konuların günlük yaşamla ilişkili olarak yürütülmesini istediği sonucuna varılmıştır. Sonuçlara dayalı olarak fen bilimleri öğretim programlarında içeriğin öğrencilerin ilgi alanlarına yönelik olması ve bu doğrultuda ihtiyaç analizine başvurulması, dersin yürütülme şeklinin uygulama ağırlıklı olması ve aynı zamanda okul dışı etkinlikler gibi farklı uygulama yöntemlerine başvurulması, yeni öğrenme yöntem ve tekniklerin derslerde uygulanması, öğrencilerin günlük yaşamlarıyla ilişki kurabilecek şekilde konulara ve içeriklere ağırlık verilerek dersin yürütülmesi önerileri getirilebilir.

Primary school science classes are one of the important classes that help students understand the world and their environment. Especially primary school students want to understand and make sense of the situations in their lives. The subjects that students are most curious about are scientific subjects. Therefore, it can be said that good science education will enable students to make their lives easier, enriched and diversified. It is seen that the content of primary school science courses is shaped in the light of global developments and teachers' opinions. However, the lack of a needs analysis for primary school students is a significant deficiency. In this context, this study aimed to reveal the views of primary school students on what they expect from science lessons. The research was conducted according to the case study design, which is one of the qualitative research methods. Interviews were conducted with eight fourth-grade students determined based on criterion sampling in line with the focus group interview. For the analysis of the data, first descriptive analysis and then content analysis were used to analyze the data. As a result of the analysis of the data, it was concluded that the students wanted the science course to consist of interesting content, to be conducted practically, to be based on innovative approaches and teachings, and to be conducted in relation to daily life. Based on the results, suggestions can be made that the content in science curriculum should be oriented towards the interests of the students and a needs analysis should be applied in this direction, the course should be practice-oriented and different application methods such as out-of-school activities should be used, new learning methods and techniques should be applied in the courses, and the course should be conducted by focusing on topics and contents that can be related to the daily lives of the students.
