Orwell'in ekonomi-politik mirası

Abstract

Edebiyat ve iktisat ilişkisi genelde edebiyat ve kapitalizm ilişkisi üzerinden kurulmaktadır. Sermaye birikiminin işçiler üzerindeki olumsuz etkisi ve bu etkinin işçiler tarafından kırılma çabaları, aşırı çalışma saatlerinin işçiler üzerinde yaratmış olduğu “yabancılaşma”, kötü yaşam koşulları, kadın ve çocuk emeğinin kullanımı gibi konular edebiyat ve iktisat ilişkisinin ana temalarını oluşturmaktadırlar. Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck, Jack London ve Thomas Mann gibi yazarların eserleri kapitalizmin sosyal çevrede yarattığı travmaları tahlil etmeleri yönünden kıymetlidir. George Orwell ise edebiyat ve kapitalizm ilişkisi yaklaşımının aksine, edebiyat ve sosyalizm/sosyalizm eleştirisi ilişkisi kurmaktadır. Orwell eserlerinde eşitlik ve özgürlük ideallerini tartışmaktadır. Sosyalizmle gelen “eşitliğin” “özgürlüğü” ve kapitalizmle gelen “özgürlüğün” de “eşitliği” yok etmesi, Orwell’ın tartıştığı asıl temalardır.

Literature and economy relations generally are being built over literature and capitalism relationship. The subjects such as capital accumulation’s negative effect on workers and the endeavors to breaking this effect by the workers, estrangement of the workers as a result of excessive work hours, poor living conditions, and the usage of women and children labors compose the main theme of the literature and economy relations. The Charles Dickens’s, John Steinbeck’s, Jack London’s and Thomas Mann’s works are valuable in aspect of analyzing the trauma in social surroundings which is created by capitalism. In contrast, George Orwell builds the literature and socialism/socialism criticism relationship rather than literature and capitalism relationship approach. Orwell discusses the equality and freedom ideologies in his works. In this sense, the actual theme is being discussed by Orwell is the “equality” which is coming with socialism destroys the “freedom” and the “freedom” which is coming with capitalism destroys the “equality”.
