This study examined the effects of virtual exercise on glycemic control, body composition, psychological state, and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is a randomised controlled trial involving pre- and post-test measurements. It was conducted with 64 patients (32 in the intervention group and 32 in the control group) who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, met the inclusion criteria, and had applied to the internal medicine outpatient clinic of a state hospital in Istanbul. Research data were collected using the following: HbA1c value; body composition analysis; the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale; the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale; and the Virtual Reality Goggles Application Satisfaction Form. Patients in the intervention group exercised using virtual reality goggles three times a week for 12 weeks, for a total of 36 sessions. The results showed statistically significant decreases in HbA1c values, positive changes in body composition, and decreases in depression, anxiety, and stress levels, as well as an increase in quality of life in the intervention group. The average satisfaction score for patients using the virtual reality goggles was found to be 9.54 ± 0.79. In conclusion, exercise using virtual reality goggles was found to reduce HbA1c levels, improve body composition, and reduce depression, anxiety, and stress levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It also increased the quality of life and patient satisfaction.
